The University of the Philippines Manila (UP Manila) is the birthplace and cradle of the University of the Philippines System and is one of its eight constituent universities. Its precursor is the Health Sciences Center (HSC) created in 1977 that brought together all the health colleges and units in UP to ensure the highest standards of education, training, research, and extension services in the health sciences and professions. HSC was renamed into UP Manila in 1982.
